The core responsibility of the Economic Development Office is to promote Summerside by contacting existing and potential Business and development clients who may provide investment and job creation in the community. We foster growth by providing information, access to processes, staff and politicians, and by creating the best possible environment to provide these opportunities. Our success is measured by the following indicators: assessment growth, building permits, hydro hook-ups, EI statistics, overall construction activity, population growth, Business registrations and client traffic.

Economic Development has two primary activities: attraction and retention of business investment opportunities. Business is attracted by a) actively going outside the community to seek new investment and job opportunities and b) presenting Summerside as an effective, strategic city in which to locate. Business is retained by a) ensuring our local business community is effectively served by all levels of government, b) being informed of the latest technology and economic trends in local, national and international markets, and c) ensuring they are given every opportunity to excel in all markets which they presently serve or are actively pursuing.
